ABOUT US

Our Story
Allendale United Methodist Church was born in 1924, as a mission church plant to serve a new home development in Northeast St. Petersburg. Even though it is over 80 years later, our desire to reach out in love and hope remains strong.

At Allendale United Methodist Church,
We are regular people, working intentionally to become fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ.
We seek to live cross shaped lives- in peaceful and joyful relationship with God, others, and our true self.
We are modern day missionaries, serving as agents of positive change in the lives of those we love, our community and world.
We are an intergenerational church, socio-economically diverse, with a faith family of persons at all points in their faith journey.
We are Christians who are excited to be part of the United Methodist Church.

What is a United Methodist?
United Methodists are the second largest Protestant denomination in America. We are the home to both President Bush and Senator Dole, as well as President Clinton’s family when he was in the White House. Methodists have played a significant role in shaping our nation.

United Methodists hold to the historic doctrines of the Christian faith. We are evangelical, but moderates rather than fundamentalists. We value the intellect and modern science, while at the same time looking to the Bible as the authoritative guide for faith and practice. Methodists have a passionate faith with strong convictions, but we also recognize that the world is not always black and white. We are willing to ask questions, to wrestle with difficult issues, and to do so with grace and compassion.

Methodists have been known for our emphasis on a personal faith, lived out in concrete ways in the world. We have historically valued well-informed and passionate preaching, worship that was lively, and small groups where people could grow in faith.

Methodists have open hearts, and open minds--and welcome anyone interested in learning more about the Christian faith.

Our Values
It is our desire to honor God through the way we live, speak, relate and serve. To that end, we value, celebrate, and practice the following: integrity, grace, relevance, authenticity, passion, humility, faith, transformation, inclusivity, joy and love.

Our Mission
Allendale United Methodist Church is a Christian Community whose mission is to Connect the Unconnected:
to Jesus, to Faith, and to Service.

We exist to connect:
Non-Believers to faith in Jesus Christ
Believers to worship and active fellowship
Active Believers to maturing spiritual growth
Maturing Believers to service oriented ministry

How our Mission Becomes Action
Are you hungry? Just as your body needs nourishment to grow, so does our soul. God provides this nourishment through worship, study, accountability, and service. We were made to come together for mutual support and council so we may then move out to share the love and Good News of Jesus in practical and relevant ways.

What follows is a short description of the many ways we ‘come together’ and ‘move out’ here at Allendale United Methodist Church. You will find six main missions, each defined with a purpose and scriptural mandates. Within each mission is the real meat, the action teams. This is where mission becomes action. There are two different kinds of action teams- ones where you ‘come together’ to connect with others in study and support and ones where you ‘move out’ to connect with the community through service. Pick one of each. You really need both to be well fed.

Contact us at Allendale@tampabay.rr.com or 727-527-6694 for more specific information on our many action teams.
