NICARAGUA MISSION TRIP
January 1-8, 2011
Allendale UMC (St. Petersburg) will send their next mission team to serve in Nicaragua January 1-8, 2011.
During our 8 day trip, we will serve in a variety of people, including persons living in La Chureca.
La Chureca is a village inside the Managua city dump where hundreds of people live. Outcasts of society,
they exist as scavengers, surviving by using or reselling the waste of the city. The children living in
the dump are at high-risk, their lives bleak and without hope. Girls as young as nine are forced into
prostitution. Children often go without food, many turning to drugs for relief from hunger and the
stark realities of their lives.

There is hope. Villa Esperanza, "Village of Hope", is a safe haven for vulnerable girls from La Chureca.
The Villa is designed to include a number of homes, each housing eight girls and a house parent. This family
environment ensures each child is given special attention and care. In 2008, the first 16 girls and two house
moms came to live on the Villa Esperanza property. The plan is to move 8-16 more girls into the villa this
year. Built by Forward Edge International, this is also where the mission team housing is located. For more

or 727-527-6694. You do not need to be a member of Allendale UMC to be part of the team, but you do
need to be age 14 or older.
The average cost for each team member is around $1200. We work many months to fundraise as much of the cost as
possible so everyone who wants to go is able to go. Fundraising for this trip will begin in April. Financial
