Hello friend,
As we continue to learn how to reconnect after the last couple of years we have an exciting opportunity coming up! Allendale’s annual Christmas tree lot opens next month!
Our ask is for every Allendale member to consider signing up for one shift. Working the lot is done as a team, so it does not require lifting trees. It does give you the opportunity to invest in the lives of our youth not only financially, but your time spent with them in the lot will add another adult in their life to help shape them for the future.
Last year the Christmas tree lot profit gave us the ability to give out 10 full scholarships for our spring break trip to learn about the intersections of racism, the prison system, and our history of lynching. During the trip, one of the students who received a scholarship told Theresa they were so thankful to be there because they never thought this would be something they could do. Some of our youth worked in the lot and were able to raise money in order to participate in year-round programming, summer camps, or community-building trips.
Consider signing up to work one shift at www.allendaleumc.org/tree. The website has a detailed job description so you know exactly what you are signing up to do. If you are unable to sign up for a shift you can donate food or drinks for those that the lot to have while working their shifts. You can also come by November 25 when the lot opens and buy a tree or wreath from the youth!
Never underestimate the power you have to change the world by investing in our young people!
