DearĀ friend,
Early voting is open now. If you have a mail-in ballot, you should hand-deliver it rather than trust the mail system. You can also vote on election day in your precinct.
When you vote this time, I want you to keep in mind and hold in your heart our member, Emma. With her permission, I want you to hear her story:
Emma visited Allendale several months ago with the intention of coming once to say goodbye to her faith and the church. In the past, religious communities had always done Emma harm. She wanted to have one last good experience at a church that she thought would love and affirm her. One visit and then closure. But instead, you pulled her in. The love you showed Emma made her come back again and again. She joined Allendale and gave a beautiful testimony of the power of your love and witness, your inclusion that reached this trans woman.
Sadly though, we live in a state where Emma and her family increasingly feel that it is not safe to live. Bill after bill is signed by our governor that targets their lives and threatens even the relationship with their doctor and their medical care. Emma and her family are moving to Oregon.
When you vote this time, cast a vote for Emma and our other marginalized siblings.
