Dear friend,
Trans Day of Visibility is a day dedicated to celebrating and uplifting transgender individuals and raising awareness about the unique struggles and discrimination they face. Today is an important day, especially in times like these, when the trans community in Florida is actively being threatened by harmful legislation.
Trans individuals often face numerous barriers and discrimination in their everyday lives, such as lack of access to appropriate healthcare, higher unemployment rates, and increased rates of violence against them. Trans youth are particularly vulnerable, as they often grapple with bullying and laws that make them unable to live their lives authentically. Losing access to gender-affirming care can have severe consequences on their mental health, well-being, and overall development.
It’s crucial for us to be there for our trans siblings, standing in solidarity with them, and advocating for them. With love and decency, we must counteract the negative impact of legislation that seeks to erase their humanity. Let us honor the courage and resilience of transgender individuals by defending their rights and building a world where everyone can live authentically and without fear.
In a world that’s often dark and cold,
A story of defiance must be told,
A trans spirit bold and free,
Standing strong for all to see.
Governor and lawmakers, wielding their might,
Seeking to oppress, but they cannot dim the light.
Trans souls, undeterred, rise above the fray,
Their humanity, a truth that will not be swept away.
Forced detransitions, healthcare denied,
Laws that make it hard to reside,
Defiant, they stand, in the face of hate,
Their love and their strength, impossible to break.
Embraced and loved by those who care,
A community of justice, standing there,
To say, “All are welcome, all belong,
Together we’ll right these grievous wrongs.”
Here are some links to testimonies given at Allendale by people advocating for Trans rights:
Emma spoke at Allendale about Flordia banning gender-affirming care and her first hand experience as a trans person.
Heather spoke at Allendale about her experience as a parent of a trans person and feeling the need to move to escape hatred.
