Dear friend,
For those who were able to be at Allendale or watch online this morning, you’ll know Pastor Andy spoke about immigrants in Florida being marginalized and threatened by new legislation in Florida. If you missed the service, you can watch that part here.
We wanted to share an opportunity to be in solidarity with immigrants from Florida and nationwide. The “Todos Somos Florida” (“We are all Florida”) caravan is traveling from various cities all over the United States heading to Florida. The objective of this caravan is to reach the state capital and protest against the new immigration law SB 1718, considered the toughest of its kind in the United States, signed by Governor Ron DeSantis, going into effect July 1.
According to the American Immigration Council, there are more than 4 million immigrants in Florida, representing 20.2% of the population.
At least one in three businesses is owned by immigrants, generating more than $5 billion annually for the state.
Let us know if you plan to join Pastor Andy and travel to Tallahassee to join the march. The caravan is expected to arrive in Tallahassee around 11 AM on June 30 to begin a 1 PM march from the Florida People’s Advocacy Center (603 N Martin Luther King Jr Blvd., Tallahassee, FL 32301) to the state capitol building (400 S Monroe St, Tallahassee, FL 32399).
