Dear friend,
This Sunday is National Gun Violence Awareness Day. We encourage you to wear orange this Sunday. We deserve more than to live in a country where firearms are the leading cause of death for children and teens in the United States. But as incidents of gun violence have grown, so too has the movement to stop it.
This National Gun Violence Awareness Day, we #WearOrange to honor the thousands of people in America whose lives are taken or forever changed by gun violence every year in this country.
Last week, we heard from Maress Scott about a gun violence incident that took the life of his son, Marquis. His organization, Quis for Life, will have an enlightening training session focused on raising awareness about gun violence and its profound impact on our community. This community event, called 5 Keys To End Gun Violence Among Young People, happening on Wednesday, June 12, aims to delve into crucial topics such as the influence of alcohol, drugs, and the ‘no snitching’ culture on community violence. Throughout the training, we will explore the significance of embracing nonviolent lifestyle choices and prioritizing mental well-being.
