Dear friend,
Join us this Sunday, January 19, at 10:30 AM for another unique service as we honor the legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and other courageous leaders of justice. This service is intentionally crafted for reflection and renewal as we gather on the eve of a new administration’s leadership in our country. Through readings, spirituals, and folk songs, we will journey together to draw strength from history, recommitting ourselves to love, justice, and liberation in the days ahead.
In this service, we’ll sit together in a round, symbolizing the strength of our interconnected community. There will be no sermon. Instead, the readings from more than a dozen readers and songs we share will call us to remember the struggles and victories of those who have come before us, inspiring us to face an uncertain future with courage and hope. A black candle wrapped in barbed wire at the center of our gathering, a symbol borrowed from churches in South Africa that fought Apartheid, will represent the hope of Christ shining amid a violent and broken world, inviting us to hold fast to the promise of justice and peace.
As we breathe, sing, and rise together, we are reminded that we are not alone in this work. This service will be a time to ground yourself in hope, to light a candle for someone in your heart, and to find strength for the work ahead. This is a service you will not want to miss.
