Dear friend,
I’m very excited to let you know about our guest preacher for October 2nd! As the news broke on social media, it has generated a lot of attention—from elation to vitriol.
Isaac Simmons is a seminary student and certified candidate for ordination in The United Methodist Church. Isaac also has the unique distinction of being the first Drag Queen preacher in The UMC. You can read more about Ms. Penny Cost here on her website.
We are blessed to be at a church where all voices have a turn at the mic, and all gifts for ministry are affirmed. Already, many people from the trans and drag communities have thanked us for having this service.
To the vitriol you might encounter, remember this:
“We affirm the sacred worth of all people and strive to practice Christ’s example of unconditional love without exclusion. All are welcome to participate fully in the life and ministries of this congregation… God calls us to acts of love, grace, and advocacy to promote healing and reconciliation.“
I also recommend taking a look at her Frequently Asked Questions. If we are all made in the image of God, then we need Ms. Penny Cost and the community she represents to experience the fullness of what God looks and sounds like.
Peace,
Pastor Andy

P.S. To those worried about protestors and security, we have decided to hire an off-duty police officer for this high profile worship service. They will allow us to focus on the important work we have to do inside, while they take care of anything that may happen outside.
