The Bellringer: Ringing against Injustice

Friday, October 7, 2022

Dear friend,

When you smile at life, half the smile is for your face, the other half is for somebody else’s.
—Tibetan saying

“Those in the circle of Christ had no doubt of his love; those in our circles should have no doubt about ours.”
—Max Lucado

“The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson

“Therefore, God’s chosen ones, holy and loved, put on heartfelt compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Bear with one another…Above all else, put on love, which binds the rest together and makes them perfect.”
—Colossians 3:12

On Sunday, November 6 at 9:30 AM in the Wesley Room, you are invited to learn and discern if you want to be part of Allendale’s pastoral care team known as the Community Circle of Caregivers (CCC). Whether the words come from a Tibetan monk, Lucado, Emerson, or St. Paul, how we go about widening the circle of care at Allendale UMC matters by being pastoral. By pastoral I mean being well-intentioned, equipped with skills, and guided in the ways one interacts with the larger circle of the caring community we call Allendale UMC. At the gathering, you will learn what being part of the CCC is and what it is not. We will explore what’s involved; like quarterly training to provide you with the skills needed to be an effective CCC member, the confidence to use those skills, and the support you can expect to receive in your role as a CCC member.

If you think this is something that resonates with you and kindles the flame within to put on love in heartfelt compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience I look forward to seeing you on November 6 at 9:30 AM in the Wesley Room.

Rev. David Franks

Saint Creaturesburg Open Mic

Music, Comedy & More | Hosted by Comedian Melissa Nicholas | Masked Audience | Monthly on the First Friday | Doors Open 8PM & Show Starts 8:30PM

“Public space should be intentional. It should be obvious that you belong” – Janet Echeman.

Unless you plan on being completely silent in a public library, there are fewer and fewer places to exist in modern America without being forced to spend money (i.e., no more public spaces). Thus enters our newest first Friday night function: the Saint Creaturesburg Mixed Media Open Mic! We’ll have musicians, comedians, and spoken word acts of all forms, and anyone interested in performing is welcome to take a slot. Saint Creaturesburg is here to show you a good time! So what kind of creatures will you find?
