Dear friend,
This week Allendale was at the center of the fight for justice and equity. Our governor has decided to ban AP African American Studies. In response, Allendale is partnering with a team of educators who will make sure this class is available to students in the state of Florida for AP Credit. Additionally, the governor has also banned Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion training (DEI) and has targeted higher education institutions around the state. Our local school board banned “The Bluest Eye” by Tony Morrison along with other books.
These tough times give us many opportunities to stand up for what is right and resist evil, injustice, and oppression, as we vow to do when joining Allendale– a promise first made at our baptisms. Allendale has become a model to other community groups and congregations for how to live out our faith with love and solidarity. If you are interested in being part of this class which will be taught for students, and a version for adults, you can fill out this form. As we enter Black History Month, let us live out the roadmap black ancestors have left us toward liberation and Beloved Community.
