GO GREEN!

Why help Allendale with its energy sustainability?

The way we use energy has far-reaching consequences. Extracting energy from fossil fuels results in pollution and greenhouse gasses that contribute to climate change.

While we cannot change the basic need for energy to power our modern lives, we can choose to adopt practices that help us limit the energy we use and reduce our reliance on fossil fuels.

Allendale is doubling down on our commitment to energy sustainability. We’ve already made some changes to our building and practices to offset the energy we use, but there is much more work to be done.

One goal of our energy sustainability commitment is to encourage others to pay more attention to their own carbon footprint.

As we’ve learned with climate change, many small decisions over time can lead to huge consequences on a global scale. When we do our part, and lead others to do their part, great work is done to save our Mother Earth.

Allendale has been here in St. Petersburg, Florida for about 100 years. We want to be sustainable to allow this community to flourish for decades, even centuries to come.

$48,000

LET'S FINISH WHAT WE STARTED

In 2014 we took out a loan that was primarily used for energy efficient roofing and windows. Let's pay off this loan and put future gifts into new sustainability projects.

$62,000

Allendale has taken steps to reduce our carbon footprint, offset energy costs, and make our facilities sustainable.

Here’s some of the work we’ve already completed:

Upgraded roof using energy efficient materials

Installed solar panels to offset our energy usage

Replaced lighting with LED fixtures

Updated many of our windows with storm-resistant, energy efficient glass

Added a device to monitor our water usage and notify us of leaks or running toilets

Implemented a building control system that allows us more control of air-conditioning, lighting, and irrigation

Cultivated vegetable gardens using compost for soil and collecting rain to water the plants
