Clergy Defense Fund

Rev. Elizabeth Davidson and Rev. Paige Swaim-Presley felt compelled to offer the ministries of the church to all persons, as they vowed to do in their ordination as United Methodist clergy. They now face a potential termination of their clergy status because they officiated what some are interpreting as a same-sex wedding, which church law currently forbids. It is unclear if the denomination’s Discipline even speaks specifically to the marriage in question, between two non-binary people.
Consider donating to the Clergy Defense Fund to support Rev. Paige Swaim-Presley and Rev. Elizabeth Davidson and the couple they married during their time under complaint and trial. Monies collected will be used to pay lost income, therapy, and any trial expenses.

Funds raised for the Clergy Defense Fund will be prioritized to pay for therapy, lost wages, and other trial expenses. If not all the funds raised are needed, Allendale will redirect to LGBTQ+ advocacy funds. Your donation to the Clergy Defense Fund is tax deductible to the maximum extent provided by law, as no goods or services have been provided as consideration for your gift. Allendale United Methodist Church is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization and has exclusive legal control over the contributed funds or assets.
